Project Overview

Presa House is an artist-run gallery in San Antonio, Texas that hosts monthly art exhibitions with a commitment to provide space for emerging and mid-career artists to experiment freely, express innovative ideas, and engage with a diverse audience. In February 2020, Presa House presented Four Rooms, the exhibition featured four Texas-based artists Jennifer Arnold, Alexandria Canchola, Lauri Garcia Jones, and Audrey LeGalley each given a dedicated space to transform into a series of installations. Curated by Rigoberto Luna each artist responded in their chosen aesthetic and medium to complement the different areas of the gallery and invite guests to step into their world, creating a uniquely immersive experience.

This work plays with the concept of space and even objects so that shapes somehow take on emotions. In the work, About Her, objects and places are more vital than the figure, they share equal weight in capturing the essence of a character. The objects created have been given an incredible amount of focus and attention. The space surrounding the character is just as important as the character itself.  The work intends for the surface to become a “subject” of its own and in doing so take on the fascination one typically reserves for the figure. In showcasing the power our belongings manifest in expressing who we truly are the audience experiences an intimacy immersed in the character’s space, it’s as if we get to know her through her things. The curtain is pulled back.

Who is she even? You tell me. In her space, with her things, you feel like you know her.
